Røros and Østerdalen are on a long-term journey to develop the region as a sustainable destination – in collaboration with our member municipalities and the local business community.
Our goal is to preserve what makes this place worth visiting: its unique culture, World Heritage, nature, and people.
Becoming a certified sustainable destination is not about winning an award. It’s about commitment, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
The certification scheme, developed by Innovation Norway, is a practical tool that helps destinations work systematically with sustainability – in its economic, social, and environmental dimensions.

Røros and Østerdalen are easy to reach by train, bus, or electric car. Once you’re here, everything is close: Røros town is best explored on foot, and nature starts right outside your door.
