Røros municipality

Røros is the regional centre, with its unique old town of listed wooden buildings, which in 1981 was placed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

Røros is a flourishing community, and in the midst of this world heritage site you will find an exciting arts and crafts environment, many small shops and several craft workshops. The mining history of Røros is well documented by the slag heaps at Slegghaugan, the mine Olavsgruva and the Røros Museum.

Between the Femunden and Feragsjøen lakes, canals and chutes were built to float the timber from the Femund region to Røros. The facilities from the 18th century are now restored and can be reached by cycle or foot. Start from Langen, for example.
