About
Gildestova is a distinctive log house from 1920 with a soul you can feel the moment you step inside. The house is centrally located in Tolga, within a short walking distance to the Røros Railway, offering connections to Oslo and Trondheim, as well as bus routes to Røros and Tynset.
The builder and artist Andreas Sandmæl left his mark on the property with ten ceiling paintings in the living room, a mural at the entrance, and animal sculptures in the garden. Fully renovated in 2025 with support from the Cultural Heritage Fund, the house combines historic charm with modern comfort.
The house spans three floors with spacious and airy rooms.
On the second floor, you’ll find the blue bedroom. There are also sleeping arrangements for two people in one of the living rooms on the ground floor and in the basement. These rooms are equipped with curtains that can be drawn for privacy when sleeping.
The ground floor features a dining room with ceiling paintings, a living room with a sofa bed, and a large central room with a seating area by the fireplace. The modern kitchen is conveniently located next to it. The basement includes a room with a sofa bed, TV, books, and games, as well as a modern bathroom and a guest toilet.
The garden invites relaxation with barbecue facilities and a fire pit. Here, you can enjoy the peaceful surroundings while taking in the atmosphere of this historic place. The animal sculptures in the garden reflect the house’s artistic heritage.
Tolga is located between Røros and Tynset, about a 30-minute drive from the UNESCO World Heritage town. Tolga offers a range of experiences: explore the sculpture park by the waterfall in the town center, take walks along the Glomma River, or drive and hike up Mosefjellet for views of the eastern mountain range. The Hamran ski jumping facility is visible from the house. In July, the village celebrates Olsok with concerts, auctions, and open mountain farms.
