1. Dog sledding

Dog sledding is one of our most popular winter activities. There are many dog sledders in the region that offer trips to individuals and groups, lasting from one hour to one week. Be a brave adventurer as you dash across the Røros Plateau behind a dog sled!

2. Reindeer events

Reindeer husbandry has been practiced in Røros for several hundred years. Even before the mining operation, the Sami people populated these parts. Nowadays, many Samis continue to practice reindeer husbandry and spend a large part of the year with the reindeer. Now you have the opportunity to experience some of the Sami culture and history. Within walking distance of Røros town center, you can experience a sleigh ride with reindeer, as well as leading, feeding, and lassoing of reindeer.

3. Horse events

Experience inviting hillsides and mountains with old tracks from mining and mountain farm operations. During the winter, you may sit snugly beneath a sheepskin rug under torchlight while the horse sleigh runs through the narrow, snow-covered streets of Røros.

4. Cross-country

There is considerable interest in skiing in the Røros region and the ski trails extend through the forest landscape of Østerdalen, Kvikne’s steep mountainsides and Røros’ flat plateau landscape.

5. Alpine skiing

The popular alpine facilities in Fünesfjällen has trails for both experienced alpine skiers and beginners, as well as snowboarding and off-piste. The region’s cold, snow-rich climate offers many unforgettable days of powder snow. The area around Storwartz in Røros is extremely popular for snow kiting as the area is level, sure of snow and has excellent wind conditions.
