Have you watched the hit Netflix series Home for Christmas?
And did you know that many of the most memorable scenes were filmed right here in Røros?
There’s something undeniably magical about the Røros town center in December—especially during the Røros Christmas Market. Wherever you turn, the streets glow with twinkling lights, tiny red and blue Christmas elves peek from windows, and fresh white snow drapes the old wooden houses of this historic mining town.
Home for Christmas is a three-season romantic dramedy, with twenty half-hour episodes, starring Ida Elise Broch as Johanne. The story follows her struggle between her own ambitions and the social pressure to settle down with a partner and start a family.
In a humorous moment of panic and self-motivation, Johanne gives herself 24 days to find a boyfriend she can bring home for Christmas.
Season three was filmed in Røros in January 2025 and is set to premiere on Netflix the 12th of December.
While you wait for Christmas—and the next chance to rewatch this holiday favorite—you can visit Røros and follow Johanne’s trail through town. We’ve recreated some iconic moments from the series so you can step right into her world:
Bring a spark with you when you go shopping along Kjerkgata. It’s fun, it’s practical, and it’s a classic Røros way of getting around! Røros is one of the few places in Norway where kick sleds are just as common as bicycles.
Rent a spark at Røros Tourist Information.

In the series, Johanne exits an Escape Room here. In real-life Røros, this charming Kjerkgata location is home to Frost, the largest clothing store in town. Frost carries popular brands such as Tiger of Sweden, Samsøe & Samsøe, Woodling, Holzweiler and Johnny Love.
After shopping, it’s time for a break—and where better than Kaffestuggu, the oldest café in Røros? In the show, this is where Johanne takes her mother to buy a Christmas tree. Even without the trees, the café is just as warm and inviting.
Johanne is played by Ida Elise Broch, known from Våre beste år, Gulltransporten and The Man Who Loved Yngve.

The series was filmed in both Røros and the Kampen neighborhood in Oslo.
Director Per-Olav Sørensen says:
“Røros was an essential part of our ‘fantasy town’ when we created Home for Christmas back in 2019. Anyone who knows Norway can see we take major geographic liberties, but Netflix wanted a show with global appeal. So we created a warm, ‘this-is-how-I-want-Christmas-to-be’ kind of town, and Røros—especially its main street—became a signature element. We’ll continue building our fantasy town, but Røros will remain a key ingredient.”
Season 3 of Home for Christmas is expected to premiere on Netflix on the 12th of December 2025.
Seasons 1 and 2 each consist of six episodes (12 in total). Season 3 is expected to feature eight new episodes.
You can get the same magical holiday feeling as in the series by visiting the Røros Christmas Market.
