About
West of Alvdal lies the mountain area named after the village. It stretches westward to Rondane, with Folldalen to the north and Atndalen to the south as its other borders.
The area is characterized by low-lying, rounded formations, with scattered birch forests along several waterways. There are several smaller roads leading into the area, providing excellent starting points. It’s also a great idea to combine a hike in Alvdal Vestfjell with one in Rondane.
Rising almost in the middle of Alvdal Vestfjell is Storsølnkletten, standing at 1,827 meters. From there, you can see many of the summer farms that have marked these mountains for generations: Breisjøseter, Flatseter, Franksætra, Follandsvangen, and Kvislåsætra are the most central ones. In the past, all of these hosted overnight guests, but today only Breisjøseter does. In return, it is a very pleasant accommodation that is well situated in relation to the other tourist cabins in the area. The Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT) has two self-service cabins in Alvdal Vestfjell: Korsberghytta and Storgrytdalseter. Visiting these along with Breisjøseter offers a wonderful round trip and a good overview of the mountain area.
