Map
The journey begins in the centre of Rena. You'll cross the historic Rena Bridge, with the Rena River sparkling below as it flows toward Glomma – Norway's longest river.
Soon the town fades behind you and the landscape opens into gently rolling terrain. Gravel roads appear beneath your tyres, and after a few miles the vast Lake Storsjøen emerges like a mirror to your right.
A steady climb will test your legs before you roll downhill toward Koppang – warm and slightly sweaty and fully awake to the adventure ahead.
From Koppang, follow the trail along the eastern side og Glomma River north toward Atna. This gentle 26-kilometre stretch winds through quiet forests where pine trees sway softly in the wind.
Along the way, glimpses of the river appear between the trees, while the dramatic peaks of the Rondane mountains rise on the horizon.
The route alternates between asphalt and smooth gravel roads, providing just enough rolling hills to raise your heart rate without taking your breath away. A perfect stage whether you're enjoying a relaxed ride or warming up your cycling legs.
Leaving Atna, you cross Glomma River and follow the Atna River west for a while before returning to the Glomma valley.
From here the route continues north in peaceful gravel roads surrounded by pine forests. If you take a small detour along the way, you can visit Jutulhogget, Northern Europe's largest canyon.
The terrain is gently rolling and suitable for most riders. When you reach Alvdal, it's time for a well-earned break and the satisfying feeling of having truly been on the road – where you and nature have quietly agreed on the pace.
From Alvdal the route climbs steadily on asphalt before turning onto gravel roads and more varied terrain.
The effort is rewarded with sweeping views in every direction. The mountain ranges of Rondane, Alvdal Vestfjell, and the striking Tronfjell accompany you along the way.
This stage offers quiet cycling across open mountain landscapes – a day where you feel the mountains drawing closer with every pedal stroke.
This stage offers a varied ride with long, calm stretches mixed with more demanding climbs towards Savalen.
The landscape quickly opens up, with views of the Folldal mountains to the west. Gradually the impressive Tronfjell rises to the east, guiding you towards the stage's destination.
A ride of contrasts – open, wild and beautiful.
From Savalen the route continues on gravel roads through open mountain farm landscapes dotted with traditional summer farms.
The pace here naturally slows, allowing you to take in the scenery and the sense of rural Norwegian heritage.
Around halfway, near Magnilkroken, you'll need to walk your bike for about one kilometre where the trail becomes too rough for cycling. The quiet surroundings and untouched nature make the short walk well worth it.
From Vingelen the route follows peaceful mountain farm roads through the beautiful Utistuvollen area and onward to Dalsbygda.
Grave roads lead you to Galåen and Galåvolden Farm, a great place for a break before the final stretch to Røros.
The last kilometres take you onto asphalt as you ride into the historic mining town of Røros, a UNESCO World Heritage Site – and the perfect finish line.
Why not celebrate the journey with dinner and a spa visit at Bergstadens Hotel?
After days on the bike, take time to explore Røros and its surroundings.
Join a guided cycling tour, visit the historic Olavsgruva mine, or wander through the colorful wooden streets – some of which appeared in the Netflix series Home for Christmas.
Enjoy high-quality local food and drinks for both lunch and dinner, and perhaps find a special souvenir to remember your cycling adventure through our region.
