Did you know that this is one of Norway’s leading regions for locally produced food?
Our region is one of Norway’s best for locally produced food. Nowhere else, will you find such excellent quality and such variety. The rich culinary tradition, both old and new, is a significant part of the experience for those who visit us. The food tastes of the pure, the untouched, like the nature from which it comes. Besides an enchanting cuisine, Røros town is an important part of Norwegian cultural heritage. The former copper mining town is one of Europe’s oldest preserved wooden towns and is included on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.
FANTASTIC INGREDIENTS, OUTSTANDING VARIETY
Our region is peppered with some of Norway’s most inspiring ingredients. Animals have roamed over dale and glen. Fish have frolicked in cold, crystal clear waters. Mushrooms, berries and herbs are gathered in season. Old traditions meet new impulses, noble culinary craft meets first class produce.
The outstanding variation of ingredients leads to many exciting combinations such as fresh mountain herbs and cheeses, grouse and freshly picked mushrooms. Try the nationally acknowledged ecological thickened milk from Rørosmeieriet for breakfast and enjoy smoked mountain fish for lunch. Be spoilt by a five course dinner of French origin. Try a Norwegian sweet with your coffee. Celebrate the food, the culture, the nature.
There are a number of restaurants and cafes who serve local food, and several hotels offer this as a part of their included breakfast buffet. Do not be afraid to ask – we are proud of the local tastes we can offer you!
