In between the pine forests and forgotten lakes, surrounded by moss and boulders, the national park beckons. Ten thousand years ago, the last ice age was over and left a deserted and pristine landscape behind – a landscape that was made for memorable hiking trips. In addition to the connected areas on the Swedish side of the national park, Femundsmarka is one of the largest wildernesses in southern Scandinavia.
CLEAR MOUNTAIN WATERS TEEMING WITH FISH
In the many lakes and rivers you can find a great variety of fish. Here there is trout, perch, greyling, whitefish, burbot and pike. Most of the trout lives in Grøtåa, Mugga, Røa and Rogen. In winter there is ice fishing, where you’ll have most success if you try your luck either in the Revling lakes, the waters at Røvollfjellet and in Engerdal.
ON FOOT, SKIING OR HUNTING FOR “THE MOUNTAIN GOLD”
Whether you are skiing or hiking in Femundsmarka, you’ll be spoilt for choice, as every season has its own charms. In summer you can walk the many trails, while autumn is the season for an abundance of berries. “The mountain gold”, the cloud berry, is everywhere. In winter you can enjoy a hot beverage in the quiet pine forests.
PADDLING
There is an interconnected series of lakes in the inner part of the national park. If you have the time, you can paddle in your canoe for days. You’ll have plenty of opportunities in the upper parts of Røa, Reva, Revsjøen and Styggsjøen.

HISTORICAL REMNANTS FROM THE TIME OF THE RØROS COPPER COMPANY
Many traces in the Femundsmarka National Park were left by the Røros Copper Company. The old Furnace Building on the western side of the Femund lake was active between 1743 and 1882. Here you’ll find extensive traces of coal burning and wood cutting. Along the rivers you’ll also see remnants from the days of timber rafting and -floating.
