Respect Livestock on the Trail
When hiking in open landscapes and mountain areas during summer, you may encounter grazing animals — cattle, sheep or other livestock — moving freely in the terrain. These animals play an important role in maintaining the cultural landscape by keeping vegetation down and preserving open nature. At the same time, they can react strongly if they feel threatened, especially when they have calves or lambs. That’s why it’s important to show awareness and respect when travelling through grazing areas.
A good outdoor experience is one where you, other hikers — and the animals — feel safe and undisturbed.
