TARANTELLA – As If Life Depended on It!

About

TARANTELLA – As If Life Depended on It!
🎶 Concert at Fondahuset during Nora Days 2025

The Tarantella is a fast-paced Italian folk dance in 6/8 time. Legend has it the dance was used to expel venom and ease pain after a bite from the tarantula spider.

Is Nora dancing to rid herself of the poison of marriage?
Is inequality in relationships the real venom?

Welcome to an evocative concert with Tor Espen Aspaas (piano) and Kjersti Rydsaa (cello) during Nora Days at Fondahuset.

🕕 Doors open at 18:00
Enjoy a drink at the bar and explore the art exhibition A Doll’s House featuring works by Elisabeth Werp, Reidun Osvik Wunderbaldinger, and Ulf Nilsen before the concert begins.

🎵 The program centers around Sergei Rachmaninoff’s monumental Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 19 (1901) — a masterwork in which two equal instruments build grand musical structures, demanding everything from the performers.

The second movement of the sonata is an ominous, intense tarantella, and the concert also includes other music driven by the compelling rhythms of 6/8 time.
