About

Discover Lake Femund aboard the historic MS Fæmund II

Season starts: 6 June 2025

Join us for a journey through one of Norway’s most striking landscapes on board MS Fæmund II – a boat with over 100 years of history and deep roots in the region. Cruise across Norway’s second-largest natural lake and take in the beauty of Femundsmarka National Park, either as a relaxing round trip from Synnervika to Elgå or as part of your hiking, cycling, or paddling adventure.

Whether you’re travelling solo, with friends or family, this is the perfect way to experience the calm, wide-open spaces and majestic scenery of Eastern Norway.

On board, you’ll find a small kiosk serving local snacks, fresh waffles, coffee, soft drinks, beer, and wine. Bicycles are welcome on board for those planning to explore more on land.

Timetable & transport

The boat departs daily at 09:00 from the pier in Synnervika. Free parking is available, and a connecting bus (Line 540) runs from Røros Station at 08:15, with departures timed to match the boat schedule.

A floating piece of history

MS Fæmund II was built in 1905 and has long served as a lifeline for the communities around Lake Femund. Originally used to transport timber and cargo, it now carries hikers, paddlers, anglers, and nature lovers into the heart of Norway’s wilderness. In 2012, the boat was officially protected by the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage for its cultural and historical value.
