About

Join Rørosrein on a backcountry skiing experience in the mountains surrounding Røros. Our goal is to find and observe the reindeers belonging to the sami people, from a safe distance.

We pack our backpacks, get on our skies and head for the mountains in the morning, the trip is aprox 5 hours long. We serve traditional snacks, drinks and lunch during our time outside.

We will tell you about the sami way of living, both stories from the past and how the do things today. Feeling the ice cold air while looking at snowcovered mountains, there’s no better way to understand what reindeer herding is all about!

For the really adventurous, this trip can be arranged with an overnight stay under the starry sky. We sleep in tents or under a tarp, and enjoy our dinner sitting by the campfire.

We recommend to end these winter experiences with a warm stay in one of the hotels in Røros. A visit in the spa is perhaps what you need after a cold day outside!

Trips over several days can also be booked through Rørosrein, challenge yourself and get a taste of the expedition-life.

Practical information:
