Destination Røros is built on a cultural and natural heritage which inspires and obliges us to work for sustainable tourism. We believe responsible tourism is a better way to see the world. Not only do you get a more authentic experience, but your holiday benefits local people and the environment.
The world Heritage Site of Røros Mining Town was added to UNESCOs list of World Heritage Sites in 1980. A colorful and charming mountain town, shaped by mining operations and agriculture for hundreds of years.
In August 2010, ‘Røros Mining Town and the Circumference’ was included on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites.
On your journey through this area you will experience how mining operations has shaped our culture and region, influencing everything from our nature to the local food and handicrafts.

Sustainable tourism is tourism attemting to make a low impact on the environment and local culture, aiming to ensure that development brings a positive experience for local people, tourism companies and the tourists themselves. Sustainable tourism is at the core of our business and in everything we do, from choosing which holidays should feature on our site to recycling in our office.
Travelling sustainably is about more authentic holiday experiences that give your travel an extra dimension. Through choosing sustainably, you contribute to the protection of cultural and natural heritage as well as local communities in the destinations. Working with sustainable tourism development, we seek to maximise the benefits, and minimise the negative effects of tourism.
Travelling sustainably is about attitude; about opening up your senses, taking the time to feel the atmosphere and letting your self absorb all that our region has to tell you. And while you are relaxing and re-loading your batteries, we work behind the scene to make sure tourism in our region have positive effects for a sustainable development of our region.
We also encourage you to look for the horse shoe and environmentally certified businesses during your stay in our region. Enjoy the local produce and the attractions and activities where you get to learn more about the history, culture and nature of our region.
