About
Glopheim Café was built in 1947 and expanded in 1953. Most of it has remained unchanged since then. This makes it Norway’s best-preserved café from the 1950s and 60s. Or as a Swede once said: “Wow, you could say it's Scandinavia's best preserved – we have nothing like this in Sweden.”
The menu features coffee and a variety of baked goods. You’ll also find a great number of classic “patent sandwiches” – that is, open-faced meatball sandwiches (made with moose) served with onions and fried eggs. Moose hash is festive food in Østerdalen, and we serve it every summer. The café is fully licensed, so you can enjoy a good drink with your meal as well.
The interior and many familiar items from the era contribute to a complete experience – enhanced by our friendly and service-minded staff.
Welcome to a café experience out of the ordinary!
A bit of history about Glopheim Café:
Two families lived and worked at Glopheim Café and Bakery from its beginning until 2001. First the Østhagen family, who built the place, and from 1960 the Dellerud family. Today’s owner, “The Glopheim Foundation,” took over in 2001. A year later, the operating company Glopheim Kafé DA was established, and for nearly 25 years both have ensured life and activity in the building. Regular café service is available every day throughout the summer and on Saturdays year-round. In addition, concerts, tour groups, vintage vehicle gatherings, pub nights, and private events have filled the space and created fond memories in this unique atmosphere.
The building is protected by the Directorate for Cultural Heritage and was awarded the Olavsrosa in 2009.
